The “Fontanges” service is a collection of Terre de Fer tableware produced by the Sarreguemines factory, a French earthenware factory founded in 1790.
This service, introduced in the late 19th century, is recognizable by its delicate floral motifs, generally in burgundy red or blue, applied to white earthenware. The pieces of the "Fontanges" service include many elements: plates, soup tureens, sauce boats, and other everyday tableware.
The name "Fontanges" refers to the Marquise de Fontanges, the last favorite of King Louis XIV, which adds a historical and elegant touch to this service. Today, pieces from this service are sought after by collectors and lovers of antique earthenware.
