The Choisy-le-Roi factory, known as H. Boulenger & Cie, was a major player in the French ceramics industry from the 19th to the 20th century. Founded in 1805 by the Paillart brothers, it began producing fine earthenware with printed decoration in 1808, with the collaboration of Christophe Potter.
In 1836, Hippolyte Hautin joined forces with Louis Boulenger to manage the factory. Their family partnership led, in 1863, to the takeover by Hippolyte Boulenger (1836-1892), who renamed the company H. Boulenger & Cie. Under his leadership, the factory experienced significant growth, receiving several awards at the World's Fairs. In 1889, the headquarters were moved to 18 rue de Paradis in Paris, a building notable for its ceramic-adorned façade, a true showcase of the company's expertise.
In 1920, H. Boulenger & Cie acquired the Montereau factory, owner of the Creil-Montereau brand, thus forming the HBCM group. The Choisy-le-Roi workshops closed in 1934, followed by those in Montereau in 1955. In 1967, the company was converted under the name Établissement Boulenger, specializing in coatings.
